Combat Youth Homelessness
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN TO COMBAT YOUTH HOMELESSNESS AND TO HELP PROVIDE FOR AT-RISK YOUTH
REACHING CLARITY HAS RAISED $7,100 BUT STILL NEED A GREAT DEAL OF SUPPORT TO MEET OUR GOAL OF $25,000!
There is a significant unmet need in Atlanta for supported housing for homeless youth 18-24 years old. Many youth aging out of foster care do not have the ability or means access to affordable safe and stable housing. Our Independent Living Program provides a safe haven for displaced youth. These youth are in need of ongoing support services and resources to help them transition to independent living.
Independent Living Program
Young adults (ages 18-24) who age out of the foster care system are especially vulnerable to homelessness. The estimated numbers of young adults who experience an episode of homelessness each year range from approximately 750,000 to 2 million. Youth aging out of the foster care system are vulnerable in the existing adult-oriented service system primarily because of their inexperience. These young adults do not become familiar with available resources until they experience a significant health or criminal justice issue.

Become a Mentor, Be the Change
Foster youth long to have a loving, stable support system they can depend on and call their own. Youth aging out of foster care is in great need of ongoing emotional support and guidance. It is important to remember that most of these young people have had inadequate role models and minimal help in learning how to navigate complex systems such as health care and post-secondary education. Youth that age out of foster care with a mentor are less likely to experience homelessness and incarceration and more likely to become educated, healthy adults. Becoming a mentor for at-risk youth is a great way to make the difference of a lifetime. For more information on how you can become a mentor or sponsor a youth, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
